Heidi Burnett is the CEO of Advanced Speech Therapy, a company dedicated to helping those being involved with head related injuries or injuries that make speaking and living their every day lives hard. The title she goes by is “Speech Language Pathologist”  is also known as a speech therapist. She mostly helps adults that have basically forgotten how to speak or can’t move their muscles properly in order to do so. Here is my interview with Heidi Burnett.

Q:  What exactly do you do?

A:  The title is “Speech Language Pathologist” and I help people with head injuries, like people who were in car or biking accidents. I show them how to move their muscles if  they have a brain injury so they cannot make themselves function correctly. Sometimes if there is brain damage I give them puzzles and worksheets for organization. The muscles in their cheeks can also be a problem. Maybe they can’t move one side of their entire face, which makes communicating hard.

Q:  What kind of people do you help?

A:  As I said earlier, mostly people with head injuries. Sometimes they will be people who were in tanks during a battle and a mine blew up and rocked the tank. They may have hit their head. Also I help people with strokes or vehicle injuries. That said, I mostly help adults. It’s sad, in a way because these people have forgotten some basic things and they have to start again. Sometimes I have to teach them to swallow correctly because they cannot fully control their swallowing with their brain. I do exercises to help their muscles, especially the brain.

Q:  What kind of training did you go through?

A:  Well, I had to to get an undergraduate masters in “Speech Language Pathology.”

Q:  How often do you work?

A:  I used to work 4 days a week, but since I created my own business, I only work part-time.

Q: So I assume you would be considered as a CEO?

A:  Yes I am a CEO.

Q:  Is your job fun?

A:  It’s work! I guess I don’t know how to answer that! Yes, it is fun, considering I like to help and work with people and meet families. I feel good about the fact that I am helping people with serious injuries to make their lives easier and carefree again. I guess you could say it is a very rewarding job.

I like soccer. I like to watch the World Cup and the European Championships. My favorite team is Manchester United and USA. Last year USA beat Spain. Spain is the best team in the world. I was so happy. I think the USA have a very very small chance at winning the world cup next year. USA nearly beat Brazil. We were up 2 nil at halftime and Brazil won 3-2.

I play in the center of the field for my team. I have to run more than any other player on the field
